Patmos won't suit everyone, and that's sort of the point. There's no airport, no big resorts, and nightlife that ends well before Mykonos gets started. What you get instead is a small, whitewashed island with a UNESCO World Heritage monastery, quiet beaches, and almost none of the crowding that defines the bigger Cyclades in August.
Who Patmos is for
Travellers who've already done the big-name islands and want something calmer. Couples and families who'd rather have a good dinner and an early swim than a beach club. Anyone drawn to the island's spiritual history — Patmos is where the Book of Revelation was written, and the Cave of the Apocalypse is still an active pilgrimage site.
Who should book elsewhere
If you want nightlife, direct flights, or a wide choice of beach clubs, Patmos will feel slow. That's not a flaw — it's a different trip. See our Patmos vs. Mykonos comparison if you're deciding between the two.
Getting there
There's no airport on Patmos, so you'll fly into Kos, Leros, or Rhodes and take a ferry the rest of the way, or take a direct overnight ferry from Piraeus. Full details in our ferry guide.
